this interpretation of the phrase “las Albertinas” does not seem to be pertinent because la Maga is rarely if ever portrayed as a multiple being. On the other hand, one specific passage from Albertine disparue has an obvious parallel with the treatment of la Maga in Rayuela because it suggests how a woman can be recovered through memory. This fragment appears after the protagonist has already suffered because of Albertine's departure and death and when he finally begins to experience more pleasure than pain upon recalling his lost beloved. It is then that he truly misses Albertine and has the impression of seeing her everywhere through other women:

Toutes me semblaient des Albertine, l'image que je portais en moi me la faisant retrouver partout, et même, au détour d'une allée, l'une qui remontait dans une automobile me la rappela tellement, était si exactement de la même corpulence, que je me demandai un instant si ce n'était pas elle que je venais de voir. . . .
